The Dozier School for Boys has become infamous for their harsh treatments towards the boys that stayed there. Former students have said they received beatings from guards, some even dying from the brutal treatment.
Researchers, through ground-penetrating radar and soil samples have found nearly 100 unmarked graves on the school grounds. Erin Kimmerle, who is an associate professor at the University of South Florida, wants to exhume the bodies so that they may be identified and returned to their families.
So far, the State has refused permission to do so. Although Governor Rick Scott's office is denying exhumation, Kimmerle has the support from Sen. Bill Nelson, the Stat'e attorney, and members of Florida's Legaslature.
