Last year, Joe Corlett, a 57-year-old student of Detroit's Oakland University, was suspended over an explicit essay he wrote for his English class. The teacher asked students to write an essay, and according to Corlett, she said no subject was off limits.
After turning in his essay, entitled "Hot For Teacher" (after the famous Van Halen song), was suspended from the school. The essay described in racy detail Corlett's infatuation with the teacher, calling her "stacked" and comparing her to the Gilligan's Island" character Ginger.
Corlett filed a lawsuit against the University, citing the First Amendment in his argument. The judge tossed the suit saying "Such expressions, while possibly appropriate in some settings, need not be tolerated by university officials."
