Fast food has begun creeping on to Park Avenue, alarming Winter Park officials who want to preserve the street's reputation for "fine dining."
A BurgerFi opened last year, and a Firehouse Subs is expected soon. By agreeing to offer table service, both chains were able to meet city codes that allow only "fine dining" on Park Avenue, known for high-end shopping. But now the city is planning to tighten regulations to keep other fast-food places from popping up.
BurgerFi, which touts all-natural burgers made with grass-fed beef, has about four dozen restaurants across the country and opened on Park Avenue in July near Rollins College. Since then, it has proved popular with diners but has rankled city officials and Park Avenue merchants who say it's not living up to the table-service requirement.
