Nazi Art Trove Discovered in Munich Apartment

More than 1,000 paintings were discovered in an apartment in Munich, Germany, NPR reported Monday, with undiscovered works by Pablo PicassoHenri Matisse, and Marc Chagall, among other artists.

German tax officials made the discovery of the trove of precious artworks when they visited the cluttered Munich apartment of Cornelius Gurlitt, a descendant of an official from World War II Germany. The paintings were confiscated by Nazi soldiers for not conforming to the Nazi ideology.
